You started your blog because you had something to say, right?

You wanted to share your story, your knowledge and your gifts with the world (or at least your niche).

But I’m guessing you also want to make money from your blog.

So, what if you had a detailed formula that almost guaranteed you could make real, life-changing money from your blog?

Would you want to know what it is?

Blog Money Formula

Okay, I’ll stop teasing. The Blog Money Formula goes like this:

Traffic + Lead Capture + Partner Offers = Profit

Seem too simple? Let’s dig a little deeper so you can apply this formula to your own blog and start making real profit.

1. Blog Traffic

Ah, the all elusive traffic. All bloggers want it, but not all bloggers know how to get it.

If we all had a bottomless budget, we could just buy Facebook Ads ‘til the cows came home and call it a day.

But for most of us, that’s not an option. So instead, use this (free and awesome) strategy I learned from Mary Fernandez of Persuasive Blog:

Guest post on other popular blogs in your niche to leverage their existing audience. (See how I’m doing that right now??)

The blog owner gets your awesome content and you get a chance to win over their awesome audience.

But wait! Not all guest posts are created equal!

The difference between a traffic-generating, subscriber-growing guest post and one that gets you nothing lies in your author bio at the end of the post.

Your author bio should NOT link to your website homepage.

Instead, link to a content upgrade freebie that requires an email opt-in (more on this below). This can be something like a short email course or an action-packed checklist.

If the freebie is related to the post they just read and offers to give even more value for free, you dramatically increase your click-through rate (traffic!).

Okay, so now you’ve got highly targeted traffic coming to your blog. What next?

2. Lead Capture

In order to get lasting value from the traffic coming in from your guest post, you need to have a lead capture form front-and-center on the page you’re driving traffic to.

Here’s what that looks like:

Guest post author bio link–> Content Upgrade opt-in on your blog

This enables you to get traffic and subscribers in one fell swoop.

If you want to set your blog up for long-term profit, say this out loud right now and never forget it:

“The goal of blog traffic is to get more blog subscribers.”

Okay, so now you have traffic and subscribers. Great.

How do you actually start making money?

3. Partner Offers

Until you’re ready to sell your own products or services, promoting partner offers is the next value in this Blog Money Formula.

This is also known as affiliate marketing, and plenty of highly successful and respected bloggers use this method to earn big bucks on an ongoing basis.

Like Darren Rowse of ProBlogger. In a recent Periscope broadcast, he talks about his view of affiliate marketing (after showing off his $17k+ affiliate check).

And it’s as simple as this to make it work on your own blog:

  1. Find products or services that your subscribers will LOVE. To get started, browse affiliate marketplaces like ClickBank or search Google for “<your niche/topic> affiliate program”.
  2. Present the offer to your audience in a natural, non-salesy way. Do this by delivering huge value through a detailed video tutorial or how-to post that links to a related affiliate offer.

I’m not suggesting that this Blog Money Formula is the only way to profit from your blog. In fact, many bloggers use entirely different strategies and still make a killing.

And it works in a way that you can feel proud of. You’re helping your community by introducing them to valuable products and resources and you’re making an income.
