Sometimes it can be hard to think of your next blog post. Inspiration may be hard to come by or your brain is too full of other things to even think about what to write about (just where exactly did I leave my car keys?). I’ve been there. Sometimes the everyday mundane activities of a busy workweek can be overwhelming, but there are other ways to find blog post ideas. Whether you’re a creative, a crafter, an entrepreneur, or a busy mom, there are four ways that can help trigger your interests and determine just what you want to blog about.
The first thing that you can do once you decide to be a blogger (or perhaps you just want to blog better) is to use the right tools. Whether you need a pen and paper to jot down your ideas, a dry erase board in your office, or a snazzy laptop, having the ability to track your inspiration and create is important.
4 Ways to Create Blog Post Ideas
1. Magazines. Remember these things? I know that I’m not the only one that doesn’t read magazines as frequently anymore, but they are my top place for blog post inspiration. Forget Pinterest! Magazines are the original place to find beautifully curated content. I read magazines both online and with a paper copy. I even clip and save pages that I love. I still collage like I’m in middle school every so often, only this time I call them “vision boards.” Magazines such as Coastal Living, Southern Living, Martha Stewart, and Real Simple seem to have the best content for the type of writing that I do. Being inspired is not the same as copying though!
I would never blatantly copy an idea from a magazine, but I do use their photographs for color palette inspiration for design work. I also find inspiration in their letters (what did people like to read about) and in their celebrity interviews.
2. Watch a movie. Perhaps the latest Sex & the City movie or Scandal episode might not spark creativity, but try watching interesting documentaries. Something on food or home decor might give you your next recipe roundup post or inspire you to redecorate your home showing your audience your every step. Or, perhaps you catch an interesting outfit in a movie that you want to recreate or a storyline that resonates with your daily life. Whenever I’m at a loss and need to unwind, I find myself streaming movies in the tent mode with my HP x360. I can now watch my shows anywhere!
From the bedroom to the bathroom, I’m able to catch up on my favorites. My toddler has totally taken over our main television, so streaming has become my new go to for entertainment.
3. Read a book. This is definitely my favorite way to get ideas for blog content. Not only are books a way for me to relax, I love reading books that were written by bloggers. Whether they’re non-fiction memoirs, blog advice books, or even recipes books from food bloggers, these are my favorite ways to get new content ideas. I am so inspired by seeing other bloggers succeed that I become an energized idea machine! I say to myself, “if this blogger can make, so can I!” and I somehow find myself back at the computer typing up another post.
4. Listen to music. After you’ve flipped through a few magazines, binge watched your favorite television show, and read a good book, it’s only right to listen to some new music.
