I’ve had countless opportunities to experiment with different types of stories on Snapchat, and, the results to me are pretty clear. It’s only after trial and error that I’ve been able to determine the best engaging stories to present as a story on Snapchat. There are three themes that typically do well on Snapchat, and, it may be different for others, but for me it’s quite astounding what I’ve found.
Asking Viewers for Help
The strategy of asking your viewers to help with the story at hand can do a lot for engagement. First off – it involves the viewers, and anything that involves them will add value to the story as a result. Secondly, it brings a sense of community to the story, something that isn’t present on a lot of influencers stories these days – it’s mostly, “Hey Hey, look at me, look at me!” types of stories and completely disregards the viewers. I’ve caught myself doing this and I’ve seen engagement rates decrease as a result – lesson learned.
Asking Viewers for their take
What I mean by “Take” is akin to how they would do “it”, “it” meaning something that is presented in the story that you’ve done that you want your viewers to do also, but in their own way. This is engaging because you’re taking something from your story and asking your viewers to do the same, in their own sense, and leads to viewers becoming a part of the story – literally. It’s also fun to see how viewers interpret what’s being asked to reproduce.
Fill in the blank
I tried a story the other week where I took a blank black picture, put three different sentences on it, and had people “fill in the blank” – kind of like ad libs. I couldn’t believe how many responses I received from this – hundreds! It was insane. And what I learned from this is, that people want to let other people know (even if they don’t know them) what their names are, what they’re up to, and how they’re feeling. It’s common for humans, in my experience, to want to let others know these types of things. As a result, this social experiment yielded my best engagement I’ve ever done. I posted as many of the responses as I could to my story – and my viewers loved it!
All in all, what makes Snapchat so great is the ability to try something new everyday – and, over time, finding what works can add so much to your Snapchat story. I usually do these themes throughout the week and it creates a great community in which everyone is a part of. People love to engage when they know they are together as one on a given story. I’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with these and there are a lot more themes out there that others have done that have yielded similar results. Take these themes, tinker with them, and let me know if they’ve worked for you.
